IBM will unveil a set of Office Automated Equipment, an industry first, that will bring big data analytics to the home automation space, according to a report.IBM will offer a suite of Office-enabled Automation Equipment, the company said in a regulatory filing Tuesday, noting that the products will allow users to collect and analyze data about their devices’ capabilities.
The company also announced that it would launch a suite in 2018 for businesses that want to deploy Office Automators to their enterprise data centers.
The products, the filing said, will be based on IBM’s Cloud Platform and can be configured for various applications.
IBM will be developing the devices with software developer partners such as IBM’s Azure cloud platform.
The announcement follows a number of announcements about its foray into the home appliances business over the past year.
Last month, the chipmaker said it was adding Office Automator, a suite for data mining and automation, to its Watson platform, and earlier this month, it announced that a suite will be available for its Watson IoT platform.
